I've blogged about our awesome free engagement pics, but I haven't mentioned who'll be shooting our wedding!
First, a little background...
Growing up, I wasn't one of those little girls who dreamed of her wedding day. I assumed I'd get married eventually, but just didn't think too much about it. (I did execute a full wedding for Barbie and Ken though and even took pictures of it! Ha.) But, I've always been the type to take a ton of pictures (see: Barbie & Ken's wedding) and later obsess over them. Maybe it's because I'm an only child who had a lot of alone time on her hands, but I remember spending hours looking through pictures of me as a baby, my birthdays, summer camp, and family gatherings. Even now, I get really excited when I re-discover an old scrapbook or photo album of mine.
Steve loves photography too, so naturally, when we got engaged, it was one of our top priorities. By then we had seen pictures of some friends' weddings and we knew exactly what style we were looking for. We want unique, creative and artistic shots. We don't want anything traditional, with the exception of a few portraits. We want a photographer who takes chances and doesn't just do the "expected" shot. Most importantly, we want the kinds of pictures that will make our hearts swell every time we look at them.
As soon as we booked our venue, we made three appointments. The very first one we made (and whose portfolio we were most excited about) was with Jorg Windau. Before meeting him, we were attracted to his style and editing skills, and when we met him in person, we clicked with him instantly. He's super friendly and his European accent was so welcoming. We loved that he took the time to get to know us during our appointment. He totally understood our vision, and even had shot a couple of weddings at our venue. Sweet! Steve and him even bonded about their mutual engineering backgrounds. We walked out of that appointment feeling like we'd found "the one" but we went to the other two appointments anyway, just to be sure. The other two photographers just couldn't compare so we signed on with Windau! Woohoo!
I mean, c'mon:

SWOON!! Hop on over to Windau's website and check out the rest of his portfolio! His team is also going to take a documentary-style video of our wedding day so we're excited about that as well (yes, home videos were also a fav of mine when growing up!)
One last thing: this fall, we're going to take some more engagement photos with Windau. We want to experience working with him before our wedding day, and we hope to get some fun and whimsical shots of us playing in foliage and frolicking around Brooklyn. Stay tuned!
