I haven't talked much about our ceremony because we haven't planned too much yet, but we know our friend/Steve's mentor will officiate. We plan to write the ceremony and vows ourselves. We're going to focus on that this summer, as with grad school thesis stuff, I can't add ceremony-writing to the mix now!
One thing we have decided on is the music I'll walk down the aisle to. There's a song by R&B singer Javier called "In Your Hands." Besides being a totally appropriate song for the moment I walk toward Steve to take his hands in mine right before we become husband and wife, it also has sentimental value. While I was studying abroad in Spain my junior year of college, Steve and I celebrated our two year anniversary. Because we couldn't be with each other on that day (*tear* I still remember how sad that day was!) we decided to create power point slide shows for each other. Our plan was to email each other the slide shows so we could view them on our anniversary. Unfortunately, the files were too big to email so we had to wait until we saw each other in person, a few months later, when Steve visited me during his Spring Break. I set my slide show to Sade's "By Your Side" and he set his to Javier's "In Your Hands."
Take a listen and read the lyrics below.
In Your Hands
My life begins and ends
All that I am, I surrender to you
I’ve never felt so weak and yet so strong
I am home, where I belong
I was afraid, of losing everything
Now I’m amazed, ‘cause all I ever wanted
Was to lose, myself in you
In Your Hands
I place my trembling heart
All of my dreams, lead me to you
Now the tears of yesterday are gone
I’ve let go of holding on
There’s a place, where all my journeys end
Where my broken soul can mend
Here I stand, there’s nothing in my way
So I put my faith in you
I will give my all to you
My heart has at last learned to dance
In Your Hands
In Your Hands
I know that I am home
And I’ll never be alone
All that I am, is in your hands
My life begins and ends
My life begins and ends
All that I am, I surrender to you
I’ve never felt so weak and yet so strong
I am home, where I belong
I was afraid, of losing everything
Now I’m amazed, ‘cause all I ever wanted
Was to lose, myself in you
In Your Hands
I place my trembling heart
All of my dreams, lead me to you
Now the tears of yesterday are gone
I’ve let go of holding on
There’s a place, where all my journeys end
Where my broken soul can mend
Here I stand, there’s nothing in my way
So I put my faith in you
I will give my all to you
My heart has at last learned to dance
In Your Hands
In Your Hands
I know that I am home
And I’ll never be alone
All that I am, is in your hands
My life begins and ends
I don't think I'm going to be able to hold it together! I want to put the lyrics in our program for our guests to read. I'm really looking forward to this moment. Who knows? Maybe Steve will even shed a tear. I've never seen him cry--not once!--so if there's ever a moment for him to cry, this might be it :o)

What a beautiful song! Great choice!
ReplyDelete<3 Well, I will be sobbing if Steve's not!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a beautiful song. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteOh so sentimental and pretty :) Great idea. I am also going to try to incorporate the lyrics to the song I am walking down the aisle to in our programs. They are exactly how I feel about the Mister :)
