Back at it...

Posting has been light for the past month because I've been finishing up graduate school, but now that my thesis has been handed in, my thesis reading is done and I officially graduate this week, it's time to get back into wedding planning mode. This week, Steve and I were able to cross a few things off our massive to-do list.

*We bought our honeymoon plane tickets! We'd booked our hotels a few months ago so now our honeymoon is officially planned! I haven't revealed our honeymoon location yet so I'll post about that very soon.

*We completed our invitation design and bought a color printer so we can print them ourselves. The designing part wasn't too hard. All it took was an image from istockphoto.com, a couple of free fonts, and some tinkering in power point to create them. We have one vector-related hiccough to deal with (it's challenging to change the colors on these things!), but I love the cran-lemon design we came up with. We ordered paper samples a couple of weeks ago from Blue Dot Paper Shop and envelopes from Cards & Pockets and I think everything will look really pretty! All we have to do is test the sample pages in our new printer when it arrives, and then we can order our supplies. Of course, I'll write more detailed posts about all of this, but meanwhile, here's the printer we ordered:

Steve did a lot of research before settling on this printer. It is meant for printing high-quality photos so it should definitely do the trick for our invites. We got it off Amazon for about $200, and the cost is worth it because we'll be printing ALL of our wedding paper products, and we can use it after the wedding for all sorts of things.

*I made an appointment at Lovely Bridal Shop in Manhattan to check out hair flowers and accessories in June with my mom. Lovely Bridal Shop is a brand new boutique in the village that happens to sell hair flowers by designers I've seen online--Twigs & Honey, Ban.Do and La Boheme. I'm especially interested in seeing the Twigs & Honey pieces, and I'm hoping to buy a flower like this:

Depending on the prices, I may not even be able to afford any of the hair flowers they have. But it'll be nice to see them in person and get a better sense of what I want.

I also want to buy my wedding jewelry. I took a cell phone picture of these earrings a while back while shopping at Lord and Taylor. I love how simple they are.

*Speaking of jewelry, Steve bought a wedding band. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you're probably thinking: doesn't Steve already have a wedding band? Well, we bought this bamboo one last year and have since decided it won't work. It's awesome but not exactly durable for everyday wear. Steve would have to worry about not getting it wet, and it dents easily. We spent less than $200 on the first ring and Steve's been wearing it lately on his right hand. For his wedding band, he found an affordable alternative he likes online so I'll share it with you when it arrives!

Whew. A lot was accomplished this week but there's still so much to do! But now that I have more time, I can get back into posting regularly. Stay tuned...much more to come!

  2. Congrats on graduation! Oooh and fascinators - totally for it! Brooklyn Bride had an event last year where one of the raffle prizes was a Twigs and Honey set - they make lovely, delicate hair lovelies.

  4. Congrats on finishing up your thesis and graduating! And thanks for the advice about the printer - I am looking for one to print the paper items I'm too scared to Gocco, so I'll definitely check this one out. My old printer is on its last leg, so this post came at the perfect time :)

  8. That's our printer! Which, while it's been fantastic, didn't work with the paper that we bought for our invitations. Just do a test run first, if you haven't already . . . I'm working on posting the invitation story this week, stay tuned.
