Hair Trial Results

My hair trial on Friday went well! That morning, I met my mom at the Upper West Side salon that my friendor (let's call him H) works at. I showed him my inspiration photos and he went to work. He started out by washing my hair and giving my scalp a nice massage. Then he blew it dry and used a hot curling iron to create Shirley Temple-type ringlets. My hair felt so soft. Finally, he pinned my hair to the side in a loose chignon. It was pretty straightforward and didn't take too long.

Click below to see some pictures. I promised H that I wouldn't let Steve see my hair until my wedding. (So Steve, don't peek!) I don't really care if he sees what my hair will look like, but I guess there's fun in my whole look being a surprise...

Pretty, right?

He kept the chignon really loose, which I liked.

The front...

The other side, which is the part I want to tweak. There were two curls in the front that he pulled back with pins, but I want him to break them up a little next time. The way the two perfect coils are placed doesn't look natural. It's an easy fix though.

It was crazy hot and humid that day, and my mom and I were running a bunch of errands outside after the trial, so my hair didn't really hold up for too long. We'll need a LOT more pins. But I'm happy with how it turned out!

The only thing we weren't able to test out was the placement of the hair flower I bought, since I didn't have it yet. Actually, H thinks I should wear a real flower (a gardenia) instead of a fabric one. I told him he can bring one with him when he comes to do my hair before my wedding and I'll consider it...but I really like the fabric flower so I'll probably stick with my original choice.

Also, I'm pretty sure now that I don't want to wear a veil. I think the hair and flower will be enough for me. But who knows...I might change my mind again!

And the best part about using a friendor--he's doing my hair for no charge! I paid him for the trial though. I'm so grateful that he's doing this for me, because our budget is tight and I wasn't sure how we were going to squeeze in this expense. After he does my hair on our wedding day, he'll enjoy the rest of the day as our guest :o)

Did you have a hair trial? How did it go?

  1. Wow, your hair looks fantastic! I still have over a month until my trial, but I still don't have any great inspiration. I can't wait to see your hair with the beautiful fabric flower in it :)

  2. wow looks GORGEOUS!!!!!!! like - perfect!! i love it. you must be so happy!!

i'm doing the gardenia route, but you might be in a better spot as gardenias turn brown really easily so to have a pretty white flower all night will be nice :)

i bet a birdcage veil would look amazing on you, and with that amazing hair and the flower would be really pretty!

  5. I love it! It's a really elegant and classy look. I did a trial run and am so happy I did. It made the wedding day much more smooth, since my stylist knew exactly what to do.

  7. It looks fantastic! I'm so jealous that you can wear loose romantic curls like that. My hair is so fine & straight it'll never hold.

My MOH had a a real gardenia on her wedding day - she was smart b/c she had 3. You'll want at least a second one to swap it out when the 1st gets all wilted. OR just get a fake one. I think that's what my hair flowers are... I'll check.

  9. I did two hair trials and on the day of the wedding my hair looked nothing like what we had done and talked about. Oh well.

I love the look and I think the ideas you have to tweak it just a bit are good and will pull it all together. Score on the friendor! You look so pretty.
