Bachelorette Weekend! (part three)

After a fun dinner with friends, karaoke and a yummy brunch, I seriously had no idea what else MOH L could have planned for my bachelorette weekend. Turns out we were going on a scavenger hunt! And not just any old scavenger hunt. It was planned by a company called Stray Boots, who organizes scavenger hunts around NYC. Cool idea, right? A few friends who couldn't make brunch met us outside the restaurant, where MOH L explained how it would work. Since she didn't create the hunt, even she had no idea where it would take us. All she knew was that it would have a bachelorette theme, and would also incorporate some fun details about me and Steve that she had shared with the company.

Before we started the hunt, MOH L gave everyone pink necklaces to go with the black shirts she'd asked them to wear. I tell you, she thought of everything!

To start the hunt, I text-messaged Stray Boot's phone number with a word. Then they texted me back a clue, which led us to a destination. Once I texted the answer to the clue, they sent a fun fact about the answer and then another clue. This process repeated for a total of 26 clues/destinations. We started the hunt around 1:30pm and weren't finished until four hours later! The hunt took us around Soho, Little Italy, China Town, and then to Times Square/Midtown. It was so much fun. The only unfortunate part was that it turned out to be a rainy day so at times we got a little wet. But we were all prepared with umbrellas and a positive attitude.

Here are a few of the clues we received, along with the pictures to go with them. We took pictures at each destination, and were even told to email a few to the company along the way.

Clue: "Head east on Prince Street. Find the famous pink house. Snap a team photo in front of it acting COLORFUL."

Would you believe that right when we got to the pink building, we spotted this guy wearing a green bodysuit? Talk about perfect timing and "only in New York!" Of course we made him take a photo with us :)

Clue: Go west on Spring to Evolution. They keep BIG tusks from the ancestor of Tufts' mascot on the 2nd Flr. How much would it cost($) to bring them home to Brooklyn?
Answer: A whopping $25,000!
FYI - Tufts is Steve's and my alma mater and the mascot is Jumbo the Elephant.

Outside of the Evolution store.

Clue: Ghenet's prince is waiting for her in a gray bucket on Mott a bit north of Hester. How much does a pound of princes cost (round to nearest $)?
Answer:
$6

I felt so bad for the poor, live frogs...

Clue: Be a doll and go into the biggest toy store in the world. Who can you play house with in a pink mansion?
Answer: Barbie's house in the Times Square Toys R Us

Clue:
Head east on 47th and up 6th Ave. Get a pic of everyone doing the Rockettes leg kick outside Radio City.

Clue: Go inside famous Saks Fifth Avenue and head up to the 8th floor. At what sweet shop might you be able to get the bride some pure white treats?
Answer: Charbonnel et Walker

This was our last clue and after 4 hours of walking around, we were in dire need of a chocolate treat.

By the end of the hunt, our group had shrunk some (I'm so grateful for those who stuck around in the rain!) and we were all exhausted. But it was such a great day. All of us are from New York or have lived here for a while, but the hunt brought us to some new and forgotten places.

That's it for my bachelorette weekend recap. MOH L planned the entire thing and did an amazing job. She picked the events based on my personality and everything was perfect. I feel so lucky to have had such an awesome maid of honor and group of girlfriends!

You know in Oz we do the dates the other way around so your wedding date would be 11/10/10 which is why in my head you were getting married on the tenth of November. Duh
