California Love: San Francisco

After our five days in Wine Country, we drove down to San Francisco where we'd spend six nights. We stayed at Hotel Vitale, which was in the financial district right across from the Ferry Building. It was another nice hotel that we'd definitely stay at again.

Rose petals on our bed welcomed us upon arrival :)

Rather than tell you everything we did in San Fran, I'll just share the highlights through photos.

One day we visited the Ferry Building, which has an indoor market, and walked along Embarcadero, the strip along the water...

We visited Ghirardelli Square and the chocolate shop, of course. I tasted the Pumpkin Spice Caramel chocolate squares and was hooked! We bought one package to take home and I ordered two more online.

Another day, we rode the ferry over to Alcatraz and took a fascinating audio tour. I highly recommend the tour, and the views were great too.

We stopped by Union Square, took a cable car, and walked up Lombard Street...

One day, we rented a Mini Cooper convertible from Zipcar and drove to Muir Woods to see the redwood trees. The views of the mountains on the drive up and back were spectacular and the trees were incredible too.

Driving over the Golden Gate Bridge in the real San Fran fog...

Another day, we swapped the convertible for a GoCar, which is this funny-looking vehicle that takes you on a GPS-guided tour throughout the city. We looked ridiculous and attracted a lot of attention, but it was a BLAST. Seriously--it was one of the highlights of our trip. The car took us on a scenic tour and through some of the non-touristy neighborhoods of San Francisco. We could stop to get out and take pictures whenever we wanted. The GPS told us interesting facts about everything we saw.

One afternoon, we took the ferry over to Sausalito to admire the pretty houses and views. I'd love to have a vacation home there. On the way back to San Fran, we watched the sun set under the Golden Gate Bridge. It was so romantic!

Of course, we couldn't leave San Fran without seeing the infamous sea lions. They had such personality and were so entertaining to watch.

We also visited a few museums, had dinner with a college friend of ours who couldn't make it to the wedding, and just relaxed at our hotel. The San Fran side of the trip was definitely busier but we really enjoyed ourselves.

The real highlight of our honeymoon was the restaurants and food, so I'll recap that with plenty of photos next!

  1. Glad you had a great time in the West Coast's "city." And that you got to see some of our signature fog, which usually doesn't make too many appearances in October. I'm happy you got to see Sausalito and Muir Woods, too. Steve looks very dressed up for a hike in the woods ;)
