California Love: Wine Country Sights

On the one day that we didn't visit wineries, Steve and I went on the Napa Valley Wine Train. Steve had booked us tickets for lunch on the train ahead of time. Basically, it's a restaurant on an old-fashioned train that rides through Napa and neighboring areas. You eat a three course meal while you enjoy the views. While we had our delicious lunch, we feasted our eyes on fields of grapevines with mountainous backdrops.

In between visiting wineries on other days, we stopped in a couple of small towns. One was St. Helena, which had cute shops with gourmet foods. We bought basil olive oil at the St. Helena Olive Oil Company, pomegranate balsamic vinegar from Olivier, and tasted chocolates from Woodhouse Chocolate Shop. Wine Country is a food-lover's Paradise!

We also walked around Sonoma and spent some time in the park before eating a yummy dinner at a restaurant in town.

Steve and I have randomly started a tradition where we take jumping shots on trips :)

Our last day in Wine Country, we went to the First Annual Napa Sonoma Wine and Food Festival. They had booths set up outdoors where you could taste wines from practically every winery in the area, and food from some local restaurants. We were kind of "wined-out" at this point so we didn't taste much wine but the food we tried was excellent. The festival was at an interesting venue, with art installations throughout.

It was nice to mix up visiting wineries with other activities. We definitely want visit California Wine Country again in the future.

I'm going to recap the rest of our honeymoon in just two more posts this week: one on San Francisco and another on all the amazing food we ate. I'm getting anxious to start writing about our wedding day since we just received our photo DVDs (!!) so the recaps will begin next week!

Catch up!

  1. Don't you just love that park in Sonoma? It's one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area. Tell me you visited the cheese shop nearby where you can sample all kinds out of bins next to the big slabs of cheese. So glad you made it to St. Helena, too :)
