Steve and I started Couch to 5K on Tuesday. If you've never heard of it, it's basically a work-out program that gets you from couch potato to 5k runner in nine weeks. Neither of us need to lose weight; we just want to live healthier lives and be more active. Since we live right near Brooklyn's Prospect Park, we thought running outdoors would be a great way to do that. Steve is in much better shape than I am since he rides his bike a lot. Meanwhile, I haven't stepped foot in a gym in months (I hate going) and recently decided to cancel my membership. Our first session went really well! All we were supposed to do was alternate between jogging and walking for twenty minutes. It was gorgeous out and the park was full of runners and bikers. We jogged along the path in the picture above (source) and took in the scenery around us.
The best part was spending quality time with Steve. I know he'll motivate me to keep going when the program gets harder. And on our walk to and from the park, we were able to chat without any distractions, which was awesome. I'm already looking forward to our next running session together!
Have you and your significant other worked out together?

Good for you starting c25k! I started, but didn't follow through. Oops.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I could ever work out with Jimmy. He's way more physically fit than I am, so I feel like a wuss when I have to stop and take a breather when he's just getting warmed up. He bugs me to go on bike rides with him, but for now I'm sticking to our long walks together.
We got Jillian's 30-Day shred and we do it most days together. Sometimes I don't feel like waiting when he works a little late and I do it alone. It's a really great thing to do together.
ReplyDeleteWe do not work out together. It is a disaster. He's too fast, I'm a slowpoke.
ReplyDeleteIt ends in tears.
I'm so jealous of couples that run together.
We did a half marathon last year and it was fun hanging out with him. I'm chatty and he's not, so I'd yap and yap and he said the time flew because I kept his mind off of what he was doing.
ReplyDeleteI'm on week 6 of Couch to 5K and I'm so glad I am doing it. I've never been a runner so I feel really proud of myself when I see that I can run 20+ minutes straight. I tried running with my FI before but when he stays at my pace it's like he's barely getting a workout. After we got our treadmill he would run some nights and I would do a workout tape in the same room at the same time so it was kind of like we were working out together!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an awesome idea. I'm looking into it ASAP. One of my fiance and my goals is to run a 5K one day, and this just may be what we need to get motivated. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling we'll end up having to run at different paces, since Steve is just faster than me, but if we at least head over to the park and start running together, it will help me stay motivated!
ReplyDelete@Heather: No problem!
Hi there!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing Couch to 5K too! I'm taking it a little more slowly, about twice a week, and am on Week 3 Day 3 on Monday. Good luck!! It makes you feel so powerful!
We started C25K and it lasted exactly ONE DAY. That's not going to work for either of us. I am going back to my original plan of walking for 30-45 minutes 4-5 times a week. For me, I want to lose weight before we start trying for kids and because I'll be 37 in a week, we will be starting as soon as we tie the knot.
ReplyDeleteI did the couch to 5k and it works..I pushed myself a bit more than the program asked, but it was worth it in the end when I completed my first 5k in Feb.....FI and I like to work out together and occasionally hop on the treadmill next to each other or do our abs routine together...it's a great thing because we push ourselves a bit harder with the other person there.
