Hot Mommas

I went shopping a couple of weekends ago with my mom and soon-to-be mom-in-law to find dresses for them to wear to the wedding. It was the first time I'd spent time with Steve's mom without Steve, so I was a little nervous. It ended up being a lot of fun and a successful afternoon. We'd decided to visit Lord & Taylor before checking out bridal stores that sell mother-of-the-bride/groom dresses. I figured we'd look around and get some ideas. I wasn't expecting them to find anything on our first trip, but they each found a dress!

My mom will wear this long dress...

...but in this pink color:

My mom LOVED this dress when she tried it on, and it looked really great on her figure. Shutter pleats seem to be a popular choice for mothers of brides/grooms and for good reason. They're flattering but also stylish.

The best part was how excited my mom was about the dress. She'd tried on a similar dress by the same designer in a more neutral taupe color, but her face lit up in the pink. What can I say? She loves her bright colors. The pink has a silver shimmer to it in the light so she also got silver earrings and dark pewter shoes to wear. All using one of Lord & Taylor's 20% coupons! I think with the sales and the coupons, her dress ended up being a little over $100, which is awesome.

Unfortunately, I can't find a picture online of the dress Steve's mom is wearing, but it's by the same designer as my mom's: Adrianna Papell. It's a two-piece navy blue dress and the top has some of the shutter pleats but the bottom is just a plain skirt.

They both looked beautiful in their choices and I can't wait to see them all decked out on our wedding day. And, bonding with the moms was fun, which was an added bonus!

  1. Those are gorgeous :)

My mom keeps asking me what she should look for for a dress.

I don't have a date set, a venue, or an official color scheme, but she wants to pick out a dress. *facepalm* And she calls ME impatient.

Maybe we'll check out Lord and Taylor, because the pink dress is really nice.

  2. I love the pleated look, and agree that it's classy and beautiful. My mom wore a pleated dress, as well, and she loved it.

  3. I ordered a bunch of dresses for my mom from Nordstrom - we found one that is purple and she likes it a lot. She really wanted a fun color, because she hated the color of the dress she wore for my sister's wedding.
She tried on one with shutter pleats but it didn't really work as well for her. But Mark's mom is wearing shutter pleats.

  6. Gorgeous pick! My mom and my aunt have been out shopping, but my mom's not happy with her initial dress pick because it has some black in it. She's going out again this weekend to try and find something else. I love the look of those shutter pleats and agree it's a really flattering look.

  7. I love the long dress in that gorgeous pink color! Plus, bonus for getting such a great deal!! Your mom is gonna look wonderful. You're right about the shutter pleats. My FMIL is wearing a dress with shutter pleats and it's very flattering on her.

  8. WOW I looove that shade of pink! My mom has a backup that she hates but she's a size 22 so it's hard to please her. We're still looking. Oh & luurrrve me some L&T. FMIL is like a green beret with those coupons. I swear she comes home from L&T with armloads of bags like she just won supermarket sweep or something & she only spent like $44. LOL

  9. I like it a lot. Sounds like good designers so I'm sure they'll both be very flattered and look beautiful on the big day.

I loved my mom's gown which was totally pricey but so worth it because of how it made her feel. And the colors that both she and my MIL chose just perfectly complemented each other and our wedding colors. So I was super super happy!
