The wood is finished with a wax-based furniture polish to retain the natural appearance of the bamboo, and the grain is closed to create a silky smooth finish. I would not recommend wearing this ring while swimming, bathing, or washing dishes, but it's durability is superior to most hardwood rings.Basically, the ring isn't 100% durable and I didn't like the fact that Steve would have to take his ring off to do certain things. He's an engineer and sometimes has to lift equipment at his job, so we thought he'd have to take his ring off at work or wear a backup ring. We even planned to get Steve an inexpensive backup ring. But then we decided it would make more sense to just replace the bamboo ring altogether with a durable band that he could wear all the time, no matter what he's doing. He can just wear the bamboo ring on his right hand when he feels like it. Steve set out to look for another affordable ring, and he succeeded! Here's the one he purchased:
It's a tungsten solitaire diamond wedding ring from here. Steve decided he wanted a tungsten ring because the metal is extremely durable and will maintain its shine no matter what you do with it. He went with a ring with a diamond because he had liked this Tiffany's band.
Steve's really happy with his choice and it cost less than $300. Now, he'll will be able to wear his wedding band every moment of every day for the rest of his life. :o)
AND! We were able to get it engraved! We decided to go with our wedding date...
I love it and can't wait for Steve to wear it in less than four months!

Oh it's lovely and the engraving is the perfect final touch!
ReplyDeleteLovely ring!
ReplyDeleteNice. And I think going with durable was a good choice.
ReplyDeleteAww, I love the engraving!!! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteLooks just like Mr E's ring. Love the 'ten eleven ten'!
ReplyDeleteI really love the engraving.
ReplyDeleteOooooooo, nice. In terms of the wedding band, I think I'm most excited about the engraving! (That and, you know, wearing it.)
ReplyDeleteI think you made a great choice! Titanium can also be a danger, because it cannot be cut off in the event of injury or emergency, such as a broken finger or hand.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice! I love the engraving.
ReplyDeleteLove it. I will also be getting the a tungsten ring for my boo from that very same site!!
ReplyDeleteMr B wanted a ring with wooden inlay too - but we ended up getting something else due to the worry over longevity.
ReplyDeleteLove the engraving - looks fantastic!
Mr Fix It can't wear his ring at work ever. He's a flooring contractor and the tools he works with could rip his finger off if it caught on anything.
ReplyDeleteWe almost went with tungsten as well but in the end settled on a white gold ring that also has some bling in it :) I will do a future recap showing our ring shots from the day :)
I love his ring...I can't imagine a bamboo ring...how crazy! But I am all about practical so I probably would have done what you did as well.
it's beautiful! i love the engraving...such a sweet extra touch
ReplyDeleteThe engraving is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteone of my guy's bands looks like that...yup you heard it one of them! He has two, but just ordered a third because he can't make up his mind..he was initially doing 2 because one wasn't durable, but now he doesn't know if he likes any of them so he went back and ordered another.....I thought I was bad...ps. I love the engraving!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet that he got the wedding date engraved on the inside...I really love the way it sounds...ten eleven ten! :) My husband has a tungsten too and he loves it! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, and I love the engraving :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! Very nice that he gets some bling, too :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the engraving. Me and The Candyman got married on the same date last year, so it's a special date for me too. Love that you spelled it out though. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI am dying to know what happened to the bamboo ring? I have been looking everywhere for that same ring from etsy.
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind me hyjacking your page, but that ring from etsy is the absolute perfect ring for me.
Hi John--The bamboo ring is from this etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ZoeAndDoyle. It's a really nice ring and Steve has been wearing it. We just decided to get another ring for his wedding band, since Steve wanted something he could wear all the time. But if it's right for you, go for it! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. I guess they are very popular, they have closed down their shop they are so busy!
