First I showed you my sparkler...
Then I told you about Steve's "green" band of choice...
We haven't purchased my band yet because we're going to wait until closer to the wedding. But we went to Tiffany's over the summer to figure out how much my band would cost because we're paying for the rings out of our own pockets and will need to save up! (And by save up, I mean putting money into our high-yield savings account--which, because of the economy, isn't so high-yield anymore...but we refuse to pay interest on anything.)
I knew I wanted a platinum ring with a half-circle of diamonds. We looked at the Lucida band first, since it matches my e-ring. But once I slipped it on, I knew it wasn't right. It only comes in two sizes (4mm or 5mm) which were way too wide for me. My ring finger is petite and furthermore, my engagement ring is only .5 carats (a perfect size for me) so I want my wedding band to be even smaller. There's really no reason for the carats in my wedding band to exceed that of my engagement ring!

The Lucida band. Gosh, even looks big on the screen! Beautiful, but just not for me...
While we browsed other ring options, I noticed that the sales associate working with us had a pretty band on. It was slender and had the half-circle of diamonds I was looking for. I asked her which band it was and it turns out it was the Channel-set band. I tried on the 2.0mm and the 2.5mm and liked them both. Both sizes looked nice with my e-ring, so I was really pleased and excited! There's a $600 difference between the two, and at first I thought I should go with the smaller band so Steve and I can save money, but after talking to my mom, I've realized that I'm going to be wearing this thing for the rest of my life, so I should go with the one I really want. When we go back to buy the ring, I'll make my final choice.

Much better!
One more thing about my rings: I know that a lot of people think "bigger" is better, but for me, that's not the case. Like I said, my e-ring is actually pretty modest in size, and I really love it. I think a slim wedding band can make a woman's finger look really sexy (I realize this sounds awkward, ha). My point is, it's not the size of the rings that matters; it's the way it makes you feel when you admire them on your finger.
Tomorrow I'll show you Steve's custom wedding band from Etsy, which arrived in this manly canister...

For you other brides out there, did you go wedding band shopping? Did you find what you were looking for?

I am so with you on the fact that bigger isn't always better...my fiance chose to by a really high quality stone instead of a bigger one. And I love my ring SO Much! Some people tend to fixate on size, when there is so much more too it.
ReplyDeleteSteve did the exact same thing--chose a higher quality stone instead of a bigger one. I'm glad he did!
ReplyDeleteYes, size so does not matter. Bigger is not always better. The quality of the ring and how it you feel about it when you look at it is all that matters. Lovely choice for a wedding band (yours and Steve's "green" ring).
ReplyDeleteMy ring is enormous - and I don't mean the stone - the total carat weight is like, maybe 3/4 of a carat - but the ring itself, since it is a bezel set and it's really wide, and complicated, takes up like half my finger. If it was all small and dainty, I would be worried I would break it. (I'm really careless.) But I'm probably not getting a wedding band at all, since my e-ring is so wide.
