Since we're in the middle of a long engagement, I feel like the planning so far has been spread out. Every month, we've tackled a few tasks but lately we haven't had too much going on at once.
This week, however, I have more wedding appointments than we've had in the last few months! First, MOH L and I are going bridesmaid dress shopping this week. We have appointments at J. Crew and Priscilla of Boston. [Note to NYC brides: the J. Crew in Soho lets you make appointments to try on the dresses in their wedding line!] We hope to narrow down the dresses to a few that we like the best, and have my other two bridesmaids join us in April to make the final choice(s). I'm alright with the girls choosing different dresses, so long as they are the same color and fabric. I'm also fine with them wearing the same dress. It's really up to them! The only preference that I have is that the dresses be cocktail length and in the cranberry color scheme. The girls all have different body types, so I hope we find dresses that every one's happy with.

Then on Saturday I have my first dress fitting! I'm kind of nervous...I haven't seen the dress in person since last July when I bought it and I hope I still like the way it looks on me! I'm not ashamed to admit (ok, maybe I am a little) that I've been googling my dress to find other brides wearing it...What? Don't act like you haven't done that too!
I also want to try on a few veils and figure out what kind--if any--I'll want to wear. The only thing I definitely want in terms of my hair is a fabric flower accessory. (Due to my love of fluffy fabric flowers, of course!) Most brides I've seen wear birdcage veils with their hair flowers, like so:

I love the look of birdcage veils on other brides...I'm just not sure they're for me. A birdcage veil could definitely work with the style of my dress, but I don't think it fits the look I'm going for.
My dilemma is that hair flowers aren't usually paired with other veils since they can look awkward together. I really want to wear the flower the entire day, and not just during the reception. I could go without a veil and just rock the flower, which is what I might end up doing.
Then I saw these photos from The Thirty-Something Bride:

Lovely hair flowers...
Ooo and I love the lace detail...
I definitely want to try on a veil like this. I love how it's simple with just one layer and no blusher, and the lace is just so pretty. You can see the flower underneath it, but it's not too much. It's definitely a contender!
What hair accessories are you planning to wear?

Beautiful! I think I'll do a birdcage, but I've definitely seen a few images of a air flower under a simple veil and it works! Can't wait to see what you find.
ReplyDeleteI bought a veil a while ago and just recently bought a flower hairclip. Will see if it turns out as nice as in these pics!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the veil with the flower or even just the flower without the veil! I’ll be wearing a crystal and pearl headband, plus a fingertip veil during the ceremony. A flower was a strong contender for me, too!
ReplyDeleteI am alsoa big fan of fabric flowers, so I'm opting for no veil. That said, I really like your example of the flower with the long veil... now you've got me thinking all over again!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to look around for a headband, I'm wearing my hair down and I don't know if that will work with a flower.
ReplyDeleteOur wedding planning has been super spread out too! Good luck with your dress appointments!
Best of luck with the dress shopping - and THE dress trying on again. I think you could rock a flower and a veil. That last veil - the mantilla - is so classic and lovely. I thought I'd go birdcage too - but I ended up wearing my Mum's veil.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD! Look at you with my wedding on your blog! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing, when I did my hair trial and put the veil on, it was crooked because my hair was to the side and making it poof lopsided! Horrors! My intention was to add the flowers after I took the veil off, post ceremony. However, adding the flowers evened out the poof so I went with both. I was wondering, really, what people might think of that. Glad you liked it! And honestly, our ceremony was so short, it really didn't matter.
You know I made my veil, right? Here's a little secret.....shhhhh.....I'm working on veils now and plan on selling them soon. I made one just like mine (lace is slight different), but chapel length! Woo Hoo! ;)
@The Thirty-Something Bride: I did read that you made it yourself and I'm really impressed! Are you going to have an Etsy shop or something similar? If so, please share the details! That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI want a hairflower and plan to wear a veil too!
ReplyDeleteI bought a veil on Etsy for $9...still not sure whether or not I'm going to wear it, but knew I didn't want to spend what the big stores were asking. Veils can be expensive!
